New León Stadium Slated for 2024 Opening

According to HKS Architects, plans for the new stadium were delayed due to COVID-19. The new stadium is scheduled for a 2024 opening.

Ricardo Rondon of HKS Architects in México recently shared information regarding the construction of the new León Stadium. In his interview with Coliseum News, Rondon gives an update on the development and status of the project.

The project was originally scheduled for a 2018 start, however, according to Rendon plans were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Rendon, the new stadium is now slated for a 2024 opening* with plans to begin laying the foundation soon.

The new stadium is expected to host up to 35,000 fans and will replace the current Estadio León, which was built in 1967 and seats just over 27,000 fans. The new stadium will also boast a wide variety of seating which include, box seat levels, club level, and bleachers.

Apart from serving as the new home of 'La Fiera', the new stadium will have other commodities including a hotel, clinic, school, and a metro station.
